Spring and Getting Outside Again
Where I live, spring has finally sprung. We have had plenty of “false springs” along the way though and it can really get to you after a while. That saying “April showers bring May flowers…” doesn’t always apply here—snow in April is not uncommon. But luckily, we’re probably past that now.
I know getting outside in the winter is important, but honestly, this year it just wasn’t realistic for me with a toddler and a 4–9 month old. We did the occasional walk, but between the ice, unpredictable temperatures, and just the effort of getting everyone ready, it felt like a lot.
But now that the longer days and warmer weather have arrived, everything feels different.
We’re planning to plant some strawberry seeds this weekend (that have definitely been in the fridge longer than intended), and we’re having our first BBQ of the season. Nothing fancy—just simple things that feel really good after a long winter.
Even just getting outside more has shifted everything. We’ve been out multiple times a day lately, and it’s been so good for all of us.
I’ve been using a structured baby carrier (I love my Beluga Baby one) for quick outings, and for longer walks, we bring our stroller wagon so my toddler can hop in when needed. It’s not always smooth or perfectly planned, but it works for us.
They always say when a baby is fussy, try a bath or go outside—and I feel that too. When I’m off, I either want a bath or a walk. There’s just something about fresh air that resets everything.
While I’m on maternity leave, I try to get outside twice a day. When I go back to work, I know it won’t always be possible, but I’d love to keep a simple evening walk as part of our routine.
This is what spring looks like for us right now—simple, slower, and a little more intentional.
Anyone else just love a good walk?
